Treatment of Acidosis

The treatment of metabolic acidosis is determined primarily on the cause. For example, treatment may be required to manage diabetes with the help of insulin or to get rid of toxic matter from the blood in case of poisoning. The respiratory acidosis requires a treatment by improving the function of the lungs. Drugs are used to open the airways (bronchodilators, such as albuterol). This will help people who are suffering from lung diseases such as asthma and emphysema. Some people would need mechanical ventilation to aid breathing if they have impaired breathing or lung function. Acidosis can be treated directly as well. In case of mild acidosis, the administration of intravenous fluids may be advised. In a very severe, however rare, bicarbonate may be given intravenously. Nevertheless bicarbonate provides only temporary relief and may cause harm by overloading the body with sodium and water.

Wheat Gluten Celiac Disease Symptoms

Can Adults build up Food Allergies? It is also possible that you’ve not paid any attention to your gluten intolerance symptoms. The illness is infamously under-diagnosed because diagnosis takes some study and consideration.  What is Celiac Disease? Although Celiac Disease occurs as immune system response to protein in wheat, but Celiac Disease is not particularly a wheat allergy. A wheat allergy, like other known allergies, is the reaction of white blood cells (basophils) and mast cells (Immunoglobulin E or IgE for short). If your physician decides that your gluten intolerance symptoms are a result of gluten consumption, you may be having celiac disease. Celiac Disease is an immune system response of small intestine. Clinical tests, blood and/or an intestinal biopsy, can diagnose the presence of a Celiac Disease. It is possible that you have gluten intolerance despite negative test results. Gastro-intestinal problems are major symptoms of gluten intolerance including diarrhea, flatulen

Wheat Intolerance Treatment

Wheat Allergy usually exists in babies. Wheat Allergy can best be treated with a Wheat-free diet. Symptoms quickly resolve without any drugs or therapies needed. But if it is really Gluten sensitivity, more likely in case of adults and children, it would be better to treat this ailment with a Gluten-free diet. Recovery is often quick often within 2 or 3 weeks. If you are suffering from a collection of vague stomach problems, there may be one of four possibilities: Gluten Intolerance, Fructose Intolerance, Dairy or Yeast Intolerance. It is possible you may have more than one food intolerance. You have to maintain a journal to track the foods you eat and symptoms every day. On journal “The Detection Diet” is available only at “The Tuesday Club”. Remember - Doing nothing can be a risk! Undiagnosed food intolerance can cause serious long-term health problems like osteoporosis, anemia and many others.

Gastroenteritis Treatment - Prevention Techniques

The antibiotics are not so successful against viral illnesses like viral gastroenteritis. The treatment is to ease the indications andavoiding any virus or bacteria. Human body requires adequate amount of fluids to live. Dehydration is caused by too much draining of liquids through diarrhea, vomiting, excessive urination, or excessive sweating or lack of consuming enough fluids due to nausea, trouble in swallowing, or lack of appetite caused by illness. Electrolytes (Salts and Minerals) are also drained from body with the liquids.

One Tablet Zinc supplementation

One pill can save a child in Africa suffering from diarrhea. The hand of death takes 1.6 million children under the age of 5 world-wide from the ravages of the bowel condition according to the World Health Organization. In Africa and Asia millions die each year from the affects of diarrhea. That seems a high figure to those in those in the West. More children die from the disease than from malaria or AIDS. That could end if children are given a single Zinc pill. It appears the medication stops diarrhea in its tracks. That appears to be the findings in many studies, including one done in New Delhi, India. With charity support some villages are seeing a turn around because of the pills. Bill and Melinda Gate's charity work along with the Idol Gives Back program are just two that are helping supply village medical clinics with zinc pills. Zinc supplementation can be ineffective in the treatment of diarrhea. A randomised controlled trial published in the open access journal BMC Med

Peptic Disorder Treatment

Treatment of Peptic Disorder involves a combination of medications to kill the H. pylori bacteria (if present), reduce acid levels, and protect the GI tract. This strategy allows your ulcer to heal and reduces the chance it will come back. Take all of your medications exactly as prescribed. Medications may include one or more of the following: Acid blockers (such as cimetidine, ranitidine, or famotidine) Antibiotics to kill H. pylori Bismuth to help protect the lining and kill the bacteria Medications that protect the tissue lining (such as sucralfate) Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), or esomeprazole (Nexium) If you have an ulcer without an H. pylori infection, your doctor will likely prescribe a proton pump inhibitor for 8 weeks. You may also be prescribed this type of medicine if you must continue taking aspirin or NSAIDs for other health conditions. If a peptic ulcer bleeds a lot, an EGD may be needed to stop the bleeding. Surgery may b

Hematochezia Red, Maroon-colored Bowel Movements

Blood as seen in the stool can originate anywhere along the intestinal tract. Black stool usually means that the blood is coming from the upper part of the GI tract. The following may be the causes: bleeding ulcer gastritis esophageal varices a tear in the esophagus from violent vomiting Maroon-colored bowel movements or bright red blood usually suggest that the blood is coming from large bowel or rectum. all the causes of black color stool diverticular bleeding vascular malformation intestinal infection (such as bacterial enterocolitis) inflammatory bowel disease tumor colon polyps or colon cancer Some upper GI causes may result to vomiting blood such as in peptic ulcer disease. Red blood in the stool might be due to hemorrhoids. Amebiasis, anal fissures, or colorectal cancer. Colonic polyps or tumors, diverticulosis, Abnormal small vessels called AVMs Melena, if at least 6 Tablespoons (or 200 milliliters) of blood is lost Bright red color - all the causes of black or maroon color sto

What is celiac disease?

Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is found mainly in foods but may also be found in everyday products such as medicines, vitamins, and lip balms. The small intestine is shaded above. When people with celiac disease eat foods or use products containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging or destroying villi—the tiny, fingerlike protrusions lining the small intestine. Villi normally allow nutrients from food to be absorbed through the walls of the small intestine into the bloodstream. Without healthy villi, a person becomes malnourished, no matter how much food one eats. Villi on the lining of the small intestine help absorb nutrients. Celiac disease is both a disease of malabsorption—meaning nutrients are not absorbed properly—and an abnormal immune reaction to gluten. Celiac diseas

Gluten-free Diet Examples

In 2006, the American Dietetic Association updated its recommendations for a gluten-free diet. The following chart is based on the 2006 recommendations. This list is not complete, so people with celiac disease should discuss gluten-free food choices with a dietitian or physician who specializes in celiac disease. People with celiac disease should always read food ingredient lists carefully to make sure the food does not contain gluten. Allowed Foods amaranth arrowroot buckwheat cassava corn flax Indian rice grass Job’s tears legumes millet nuts potatoes quinoa rice sago seeds sorghum soy tapioca teff wild rice yucca Foods To Avoid wheat including einkorn, emmer, spelt, kamut wheat starch, wheat bran, wheat germ, cracked wheat, hydrolyzed wheat protein barley rye triticale (a cross between wheat and rye) Other Wheat Products bromated flour durum flour enriched flour farina graham flour phosphated flour plain flour self-ris

Gluten-free Diet

A gluten-free diet means not eating foods that contain wheat, rye, and barley. The foods and products made from these grains should also be avoided. In other words, a person with celiac disease should not eat most grain, pasta, cereal, and many processed foods. Despite these restrictions, people with celiac disease can eat a well-balanced diet with a variety of foods. They can use potato, rice, soy, amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat, or bean flour instead of wheat flour. They can buy gluten-free bread, pasta, and other products from stores that carry organic foods, or order products from special food companies. Gluten-free products are increasingly available from mainstream stores. “Plain” meat, fish, rice, fruits, and vegetables do not contain gluten, so people with celiac disease can freely eat these foods. In the past, people with celiac disease were advised not to eat oats. New evidence suggests that most people can safely eat small amounts of oats, as long as the oats are not contaminat

Celiac Disease Treatment

The only treatment for celiac disease is a gluten-free diet. Doctors may ask a newly diagnosed person to work with a dietitian on a gluten-free diet plan. A dietitian is a health care professional who specializes in food and nutrition. Someone with celiac disease can learn from a dietitian how to read ingredient lists and identify foods that contain gluten in order to make informed decisions at the grocery store and when eating out. For most people, following this diet will stop symptoms, heal existing intestinal damage, and prevent further damage. Improvement begins within days of starting the diet. The small intestine usually heals in 3 to 6 months in children but may take several years in adults. A healed intestine means a person now has villi that can absorb nutrients from food into the bloodstream. To stay well, people with celiac disease must avoid gluten for the rest of their lives. Eating even a small amount of gluten can damage the small intestine. The damage will occur in a

Treatment of Chronic Yellow Diarrhea

Symptoms of Chronic Yellow Diarrhea Several loose and sometimes watery bowel movements on a daily basis for more than a week A light yellowish-brown to an almost yellow-gray color Diarrhea Cramps, fatigue and weakness Diarrhea that lasts more than a day or two Dehydration and a loss of electrolytes and potassium Diarrhea quickly after eating Treatment and Prevention Drink a lots of fluids rich in electrolytes Eat several small, healthy meals per day Always wash your hands before you eat Be careful for source of your food and water, especially if you are in a foreign country. Avoid fatty foods and anything containing caffeine or alcohol as they are known to trigger and aggravate diarrhea.

Hirschsprung's disease

Constipation is hard to define due to the broad variety of bowel habits that are believed "normal." In adults, the condition is less than three bowel movements in a one-week period. There are many different causes of constipation like poor dietary habits, dehydration, structural defects, endocrine disorders, obstructing lesions, outlet obstruction, decreased motility and disturbances in Parasympathetic innervation. Disease processes can also cause this condition such as Chagas disease and Hirschsprung's disease as well as intussusception and meconium ileus. Hirschsprung's disease is a rare disease that is characterized by the absence of mesenteric neurons in the distal colon. Due to the absence of innervation, this portion of the colon continues contraction. The compacted bowel produces a physical obstacle to the passageway of fecal matter and the preceding section of the colon becomes widened. Symptoms are recognized to be the delay in the route of the meconium to mo

Bloody Stools Due to Cow's Milk Allergy

Cow's milk allergy is said to occur in 2 - 8% of infants. About 5 -15% of infants have a reaction to the cow's milk protein, but not all of these are allergic reactions. For example, lactose intolerance is not an allergy as such, but children do have a reaction to cow's milk. Read more about lactose intolerance. Allergic reactions to cow's milk may be: immediate - within minutes up to 1 hour after having cow's milk. Symptoms include hives, eczema, facial swelling, wheeze, vomiting, diarrhea. Severe reactions include anaphylaxis. These are IgE mediated reactions delayed - these can occur several hours or even days after having the milk. Symptoms include eczema, vomiting, diarrhea or asthma. Babies may even fail to thrive. These are non IgE mediated reactions. Cow's milk protein intolerance is an example of this - sometimes you will see blood in the stool. How is Cow's Milk Allergy diagnosed? The first thing is a good story (history) of a reaction af

Bloody Stools in Toddlers

Don't worry if there is a small amount of blood on the surface of the stool or the toilet tissue. This probably indicates an anal fissure, a painful but non-serious condition. Larger amounts of blood, blood mixed with the stool, or blackening of the stool, however, may indicate a more serious condition. There are a number of reasons a baby may have bright red blood in the the stool (poop, poo). The most common cause is a hard stool (poop, poo), that occurs with constipation, causing a small tear in the baby's back passage (anus) that then bleeds. This is not a serious problem and all you need to do is manage the constipation. Newborn babies who are breast-feeding can have blood in the stool which is from a mother's cracked nipple. This is not a serious condition for the baby. An infant who is having bouts of screaming and drawing up the legs, maybe with vomiting as well, who then passes what looks like red currant jelly in the bowel motion may have intussusception a

IBS and HFCS

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) Three causes are (1) excessive fructose ingestion HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup is the culprit), (2) disruption of intestinal flora (due to strong antibiotics), (3) food intolerance and (4) poor digestion. To eliminate (1), read ingredients. To deal with (2), consume probiotics found in fermented “live” foods (no heating after fermenting). The most common are yogurt and sauerkraut, but the former is sometimes heated and the latter usually is. Poor digestion may be due to low hydrochloric acid production or bile/gall bladder problems (such as removal). HFCS Most fructose in processed foods is not derived from fruits in any way. It is made from "sweeteners" added later. The sweeteners like high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are artificially manufactured from corn starch. This is not extracted from fruits, as manufacturers say so. Consequently even as there is fructose in fruit and entire fruit is healthy to consume in a proper diet, most f

Esomeprazole - Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease

Esomeprazole - Introduction - Drug Information : "Esomeprazole is an ulcer-healing drug, that inhibits gastric acid by blocking the proton-pump (Hydrogen-Potassium atpase enzyme system) of the gastric perital cells. Esomeprazole is used for the short-term treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease with severe symptoms. Esomeprazole is also used in combination with antibacterials for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori."
