Abdominal pain is a common condition in babies, infants, and children under 12 years old.
It is characterized by pain felt anywhere in the area between the bottom of the ribs and the pelvis.
There are many different causes of abdominal pain in children, including trapped wind, constipation, gastroenteritis (also known as ‘gastro’ or stomach bug), and appendicitis.
Most episodes in children are not serious and will get better without treatment in hours or days. However, if the pain is severe, does not go away, or your child seems generally unwell, it is important to take them to the doctor or hospital emergency department.
