پاکستان کے وجود میں آتے ہی حکومت نے اردو کے نفاذ کے لئے مقتدرہ قومی
زبان کے نام سے ایک ادارہ قائم کردیا۔ مقتدرہ قومی زبان نے کوشش کی کہ
ہر لفظ اور اصطلاح کا اردو ترجمہ کیا جاۓ اور پھر ایک اصول یہ بھی فرض کر
لیا گیا کہ ترجمہ عربی یا فارسی کے الفاظ پر مشتمل ہونا چاہیے۔ حالانکہ
عربوں نے فلم کا ترجمہ فیلم ، اور ٹیلی وژن کا ترجمہ تلفزيون کرلیا مگر
ہم نے اسے آلہ دوربینی کا نام دیا، ایٹم کو ذرّہ اور تھرمومیٹر کو آلہ
مقیاس الحرارت، فشار خون کی بجائے بلڈ پریشر، حالانکہ کسی ان پڑھ دیہاتی
کو بھی فشار خون کی بجائے بلڈ پریشر کی سمجھ آتی ہے
کئی دہائیوں کی کوشش کے باوجود ایسا کوئی بھی لفظ مقبول عام نہ ہوسکا۔
البتہ اسکے نتیجے میں لوگ ضرور نئی مصیبت میں پر گئے،
سابق چیف جسٹس جواد ایس خواجہ اردو زبان کے بطور قومی زبان نفاذ کا فیصلہ
دیا، جسٹس صاحب کی الوداعی تقریب میں ایک اخبار نویس نے جج صاحب سے ایک
گستاخانہ سوال کیا کہ محافظ جائے دخول کسے کہتے ہیں؟۔ جج صاحب شرما گئے
کہ پتا نہیں کونسی ذومعنی چیز پوچھی جارہی ہے اس پر اخبار نویس نے جج
صاحب کو بتایا کہ اردو میں گول کیپر کو محافظ جائے دخول کہتے ہیں۔
