The most of gastrointestinal (GI) infections settle on their own within a couple of days. However, in newborns, infants, immunocompromized patients or elderly peoples, GI infections can cause serious and even fatal in some type of cases.

Cryptosporidium parvum antibodies

Cryptosporidiosis, one of the most common waterborne diseases worldwide is caused by Cryptosporidium, a protozoal pathogen is transmitted through the ingestion of oocysts from contaminated food and water, or spread through the fecal-oral route. Cryptosporidiosis can fetal and life-threatening especially in children and immunocompromised people. Cryptosporidiosis is commonly found in HIV patients causing diarrhea.
