Causes of Yellow Diarrhea

Yellow stool can be caused with gallbladder disease. If the liver tests are "elevated", you may ask if the bilirubin level was elevated as well. If yes, that may be a clarification for yellow color stools.
  • Blockages in the common bile duct: As for initial evaluation, an abdominal ultrasound is done for explanation of causes. This test may determine if there are any blockages in the common bile duct as shown by any dilation.
  • Hepatitis: Through blood tests evaluation, the possibility of Hepatitis can be determined.
  • Chronic Diarrhea: A blood test can be done to rule out chronic diarrhea caused by celiac disease.
  • Colon Cancer: If your health care provider finds any hint of colon cancer he can consider a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy for further evaluation.

Liver disease may include a yellow tone to the skin and whites of eyes (jaundice) and brownish urine.
